Frequently asked questions

Tuition, martial arts, camps, tactical field fundraising, recreation rentals, garden lots, and more — answered for Whitecourt, Alberta. Fees below are illustrative CAD and may be updated in Portal Pricing.

Safety, vetting & parent contact

How are you different from isolation boarding schools?

The problem we refuse is simple: programs that do not vet employees and then keep parents out of contact. We detest that model — including the likes of Provo Canyon, Robert Land Academy, and other operators who treat isolation as care. We will not copy them.

We hire only vetted, accredited teachers and an accredited Principal. Our founder is a martial artist (Shodan in Gōjū-ryū) and a father of two girls and a boy. He answers for this school.

Can I contact my child after class or see the classroom?

Yes. Contact is fully transparent at any out-of-class time. Every class has Parent Portal live class view — you can see the room. Parent and student contact is paramount, not a privilege we ration.

What happens if a staff member or contractor is a bad actor?

We take swift action and we take accountability. Report through the parent portal, Communications, or Contact. Emergencies: call 911 first, then us. We will not hide a problem to protect a reputation.

Boarding school & academy tuition

How much is boarding school tuition?

Core academy program enrollment is published at approximately $4,500 CAD per year (day/program fee). A boarding add-on is about $8,000 CAD per year for room and board when boarding is available. A one-time / annual-style registration fee of about $1,250 CAD may apply at enrollment.

The planned 2030 full boarding school launch (Grades 7–9 and 9–12, expected accreditation) will publish final tuition packages closer to launch. Today you can submit an expression of interest — that does not charge tuition and does not guarantee a seat.

When does registration have to be completed to start in September of the same year?

For a September start in the same calendar year, complete formal registration and required documents by 15 June (priority) and no later than 31 July for the same-year September intake, subject to seat availability and aid review.

Late applications after 31 July may be waitlisted for January mid-year entry or the following September. The 2030 boarding launch will post exact windows on Admissions and in the Portals app as accreditation and capacity firm up.

Is financial aid or sponsorship available?

Yes. Families may explore cadet sponsorship and aid pathways in the Portals app. MDTA may match a portion of qualifying gifts toward named-cadet tuition. Reduced rates may apply after aid review for qualifying families.

Where is the school located?

5115 49th St, Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada. Independent Defence School enterprise — not affiliated with any military.

Curriculum application & practical training

How much time is classroom vs practical training?

Design targets for instructional time (formal testing excluded): Grade 1 is about 75% classroom / 25% practical; Grade 12 is about 25% classroom / 75% practical, with a steady ramp through the middle grades.

Full chart, parent trust notes, and investor navigation live on the Training · Curriculum application page.

Does “testing excluded” mean students are not assessed?

No. Students are assessed. Unit tests, exams, and similar evaluation blocks are scheduled separately from the classroom/practical mix percentages so the application ratios stay honest about how instructional weeks are spent.

Is practical training safe for younger grades?

Yes by design. Early grades keep practical blocks shorter, guided, and age-banded. Intensity and independence increase as students mature. We are not affiliated with any military and do not market combat training for war.

Where should investors look for risk and viability?

Start with the Investor overview on the Training page (risk · viability · navigation), then Programs, Admissions demand funnel, FAQ, and Portals for live product surfaces. Public pages are not a securities offering; request diligence materials via Contact for qualified discussions.

After-school martial arts (self-defence school)

How much is the monthly cost for after-school martial arts programs?

Published dojo membership is approximately $95 CAD per month, or about $950 CAD per year if paid annually. Drop-in classes are approximately $25 CAD per class when offered.

Disciplines include Karate, Kumite, Kobudo, Kyudo, and Kenjitsu. Exact belts, gear kits, and seminar fees are listed in the Self-defence School portal and Portal Pricing.

When must martial arts registration be completed for a September start?

For the September after-school term, complete registration and waivers by 15 August of the same year (or two full weeks before the first scheduled class if the calendar opens later).

Mid-year enrollments are rolling: register at least 7 days before the first class you intend to attend so staff can place the student and confirm gear.

Can academy cadets train at the dojo as well?

Yes. Cadets may hold both academy enrollment and a dojo membership. Some programs share facilities; billing remains separate unless a combined package is published in Portal Pricing.

Summer & winter camps

How much do summer camps cost?

Illustrative published rates: summer camp session about $1,895 CAD (e.g. two-week style session) and winter retreat about $995 CAD per session.
