Who we are
A family school that will not lock parents out
We are an independent Defence School launching in Whitecourt, Alberta. Military-style structure. Civilian mission. Family culture — with a practical training focus that moves from foundation classroom time in the early grades (~75% in Gr 1) to applied mastery by Gr 12 (~25% class, testing excluded). Coming soon · preview open.
We exist in contrast to abusive boarding models that skip employee vetting and keep parents out of contact. We hire vetted, accredited teachers and an accredited Principal. Our founder is a martial artist — Shodan in Gōjū-ryū — and a father of two girls and a boy. You stay in reach of your child. We take swift action on any bad actor.
Mission
Prepared. Regulated. Informed.
Our purpose is to form resilient individuals who can manage the trials and tribulations of life — with education that informs, training that prepares, and community that holds them accountable and loved.
Deliverers of Education, Promoters of Training, & Builders of Community
Our name & roots
Moehnke — pronounced “Mink”
The family name is said Mink (not “moan-key”). It carries a Prussian heritage of farmers and self-sufficient people — practical, steady, and built for hard seasons as much as harvest years.
In the mid-1800s, the family came to Canada as farmers and community-builders: working the land, providing for their own, and investing in the places they lived. That same instinct — self-reliance joined to building with neighbours — still shapes Moehnke Industries and the Defence School we are launching in Whitecourt.

Clarity for families
What we are — and what we are not
We are
- An independent Defence School with military-style structure
- Focused on Education, Training, and Community
- A company culture that behaves like family
- Committed to resilience, character, and academic seriousness
We are not
- Affiliated with any military or government armed force
- A recruitment pipeline for the armed services
- A combat academy or war-training institution
- Cold discipline without care, dignity, or belonging
- A parent-isolation boarding mill — we reject the model of programs such as Provo Canyon and Robert Land Academy
- A place that hires unvetted staff or hides students from their families
Independent Defence School. Not affiliated with any military or government armed force. Structure serves learning and character — never military authority.
Culture
Grow together. Stand as one.
Parents entrust us with more than academics. They entrust us with habits, friendships, and the daily practice of becoming someone reliable.
Family company
We treat the school community as family — accountability with warmth.
Regulated living
Routines that teach self-control, respect, and personal responsibility.
Where we launch
Whitecourt, Alberta — our coming-soon enterprise home for the Defence School boarding vision and training pathways.
Parent & student contact
We detest isolation boarding. We will be accountable.
The problem is real: schools that do not vet employees, then keep parents out of contact. We will not operate that way. Parent and student contact is paramount.
Who is allowed near your child
- Only vetted, accredited teachers
- An accredited Principal — credentials, not a costume
- Founder: martial artist, Shodan in Gōjū-ryū, father of two girls and a boy
- We demand accountability of ourselves first
You stay in the conversation
- Transparent contact at any out-of-class time
- Every class has Parent Portal live class view
- Student and parent contact is not optional
- We take swift action on any bad actor in this business
We reject the parent-isolation boarding model associated with programs such as Provo Canyon School and Robert Land Academy. If you are told to go silent, that is not “structure.” That is a warning.
